The Zombies - She’s Not There

Because it’s pretty groovy. Also sampled by Malcolm McLaren for Kill Bill Vol. 2. Trying to post more music, so I’m starting with Z and going backwards.

Apparently

I don’t listen to a lot of artists that start with Y. How embarrassing. I will get back to you on that. Not sure if I’ll have any better luck with X, but I will owe you in the mean time that I will be getting my eat on. Hellooo dumplings and egg rolls and noodles.

Happy Chinese New Year!

AHA

Okay, so I’m dumb and couldn’t think of Y’s, and none were listed on my iTunes, so I was confused. Ergo, I plugged in my external hard drive of all my music from my last computer (over 3000 tracks that I still need to categorize and upload), and voila. I emerge with two for the price of one:

Yo La Tengo - Center of Gravity - Very smooth, beachy feel. Love it in the middle of the arctic in which I am currently stuck. It also kind of reminds me of that Flight of the Conchords song where they sing in French, or something that would be in the Katamari games. You decide.

Rachael Yamagata - Letter Read - Listed under R, so I almost forgot her! Like a folksy, sultry, more upbeat Fiona Apple. She just dropped a new album a few months ago, which I have yet to check out, but her first one is a goodie for sure.

Oh, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller is being made into a musical. Thought you should know. If a Filipino prison can do it, I’m sure it can be adapted for stage.

X

Xzibit - What You See is What You Get

You’re lucky that the only ‘X’ I could think of is actually a pretty good song.

W

Liam Neeson is so badass. I can not stress that enough. Taken is definitely enjoyable, and as my roommate said, it’s like “all the best parts of 24 in one movie.”

W is an easy one:

Weezer - Island in the Sun. Again with the beachy-ness. We’re supposed to get about 4 more inches of snow tomorrow, after the storm the other day. Aiya.

Willie Hutch - I’ll Be There. Hutch actually helped write this song for the Jackson 5. His version, if I can find it, makes me pretty sentimental. You can also listen to Mariah’s version, but I don’t think it has quite the same effect.

Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go… Because.

Death Cab covered The Cure’s “Lovesong.” I’m not sure how I feel about this?

Ritchie Valens (RIP, 50 years ago today…) - Oh, Donna

The Verve - Lucky Man

I was going to be really cliche and post something by Vampire Weekend, but for serial, I don’t get the hype around them. “Oxford Comma” is just okay.

U

U2 is just a tad overrated. So here’s a classic, with some pretty stellar dance moves. He’s also responsible for such classic tunes as “Wish Upon a Star,” made famous by Jiminy Cricket…

Grammy Recap + T

I’m pretty sure this was a boring Grammys, because I put it on with the sound off (I was doing work surfing the Internet and listening to my own music instead of doing work) and at no real point was I eager to turn the sound up. Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder? What? Katy Perry coming out of a banana? Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift? What is this Please Read the Letter nonsense? When did Kanye grow a mullet?

Highlights: I’m glad Adele won, and that Kings of Leon got props.

Triples for T’s:

Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By (omg so predictable blah blah blahh)

The Temptations - Ain’t Too Proud To Beg (super innocent compared to TLC’s version)

Talking Heads - Once In a Lifetime (I highly recommend watching the music video also. It was one of the first ones to air on MTV when it launched in the 80’s. Loves itttt.)
